Oldest Member of City's Police Victim of Paralytic Stroke.
Sixteen years as a member of the Oklahoma City police department was rounded out yesterday morning at 3:25 o'clock when Joseph Grant Burnett, known to his fellow officers and friends as "Joe," died at St. Anthony's hospital as the result of a paralytic stroke suffered two weeks ago.
Burnett was the oldest policeman on the force in point of service, having been given a commission as patrolman in 1901. During the Scales administration, he served as night chief. He was 49 years old, and a native of Missouri. Surviving him are his widow and several children. Roe Burnett, patrolman, is a brother.
Funeral services will be held at the home, 617 E. Poplar avenue, Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Burial will be in Fairlawn cemetery.
