MANSFIELD, Ohio: Lenna Marine Heiby Henson was the seventh of nine children born
to John Philip Heiby and his wife Martha Elizabeth Linn Heiby.

She was born on June 28, 1912 in Liberty Township, Crawford County, Ohio Rural
Route 2, Bucyrus, Ohio.
She passed Wednesday, September 8, 2010 after an extended illness.

Lenna attended one room, eight grades schools at Brandywine and Red Run.
She was graduated with distinction from Sulphur Springs High School in 1930.
She earned her teaching certificate from Bowling Green State University in 1932
and did post graduate work at Bowling Green State University and The Ohio State
University.
Lenna taught in the elementary grades at Leesville, North Robinson and Holmes
Liberty (all consolidated) schools in Crawford County, Ohio.
Additionally, Lenna did some substitute work in the Mansfield City Schools.

She was a charter member of Lambda Chapter, Alpha Delta State, Delta Kappa
Society, International, Key Women Teachers Organization.

She married Dr. Ben S. Henson in 1939 and was the receptionist, bookkeeper and
surgical assistant in his Veterinary Hospital.
During World War II, Mrs. Henson lived in Darlington and Florence, South
Carolina where her husband served as station veterinarian at the Army Air Core
Base in Florence.

Lenna was a life member of the Auxiliary to the Ohio Veterinary Medical
Association and held/served in all its offices. She was a member of the Board of
Trustees and served as its Historian for twenty two years.
She was an active member of the local La Sertoma Club whose purpose was to aid
with the education of the deaf and hard of hearing children in the Mansfield
City Schools. She served as Governor of Northeast Ohio District, North Central
Region, La Sertoma International and conducted seminars at some of their
meetings.

Lenna was elected to the Board of Trustees for the Richland County, Ohio Society
for Crippled Children. She was serving when the name was changed to
Rehabilitation Services of North Central Ohio, Inc. and received a Certificate
of Appreciation for her many years of volunteer service there.

Lenna was a long time volunteer at the Renaissance Theater, Mansfield, Ohio
conducting many tours there.
She ran the concession stand for the Thursday Organ Concert for seven years and
earned her 15 year service pin.
She was a long time member of the Ohio Edison, Mansfield Division, Consumer
Advisory Panel and Board of Older Americans Entertainment Foundation.

Lenna is survived by her children, James (Bonnie) Henson, Ontario, Ohio, Richard
(Jan) Henson, Mansfield, Ohio and Peg (Steve) Gottfried; she is survived by nine
grandchildren, Philip, Paula, Sara, Michael (Jana), Jonathan, Benjamin, Andrew
(Eva), Christopher Henson and Alicia Gottfried; and nine great grandchildren,
Alex, Bryan and Lindsay Henson, Spencer Reece and Paige Kadar, Connor and Thomas
Henson, Christian Hall and Landon Henson; one sister, Madonna Heiby Downing of
Upper Sandusky, Ohio survives her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Martha (Linn) Heiby; by her
husband, Dr. Ben S. Henson; and by one son, Dr. Thomas M. Henson; she was also
preceded in death by sisters, Frieda Heiby and Bernadine Heiby Monday of Toledo,
OH, Marjorie Heiby Milnor of Bowling Green, OH; and by brothers, Lawrence,
Norman and Florn Heiby of Bucyrus, OH, and Raymond Heiby of Sulphur Springs, OH.

Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, September 13, 2010 at the Diamond
Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond Street, Mansfield, Ohio.


Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 14, 2010, at the
funeral home conducted by Rev. Allen Rose. Burial will follow in Mansfield
