PFC Alfred C. Thorstad, Co. C, 107th Supply Train, survived the torpedoing & sinking of the troopship "Tuscania" on 5 February 1918 in the North Channel between Scotland & Ireland by German submarine UB-77.

He returned from World War I aboard the "Leviathan" in July 1919 as a corporal in Co. F, 2nd Supply Train.

On both voyages, he listed his father, Ole Thorstad, of Wautoma, Wisconsin, as his next-of-kin.
