Betty Byrge, 96, of the Brimstone community died June 23, 1999, at Life Care Center in Morgan County. Born in Morgan County, Tenn., September 30, 1902, she was the daughter of the late Tom and Kizzie Jones. In addition to her parents, she was precedent also in death by her husband, Emmon Byrge; one son, William Paul Byrge; one grandson, Darrell W. Byrge; three sons-in-laws Ernest Griffith, Jimmy Burgess, and Edward Daugherty; one daughter-in-law, Coleen Byrge; brothers, Obey, Perry, and Clifford Jones; sisters, Essie Robbins, Ida Honeycutt, Louisa Honeycutt, Hattie Burchfield, and Julia Lawson. She was a member of Slick Rock Baptist Church. She is survived by four daughters Glena Griffith, Doris Daugherty, Beverly Walker and husband, Lawrence, all of the Brimstone community, and Imogene Burgess of Oliver Springs; two sons Daniel Byrge, and Robert Byrge and wife, Sue, both of the Brimstone community; one daughter-in-law, Flira Byrge of Helenwood; 39 grandchildren, 73 great-grandchildren, 28 great-great-grandchildren, one sister, Edna Parish of Life Care Center of Morgan County; and many other relatives. Funeral service was conducted June 27, 1999, at Slick Rock Baptist Church with Rev. Donnie Umphrey and Rev. Roger Honeycutt officiating. Music was provided by the Hamby Brothers. Interment followed in Slick Rock Cemetery.
