James Barton Ashcroft died January 1, 2013 quietly in his home in Hurricane, Utah at age 91.

Jim was born February 26, 1921 in Fruitland, New Mexico, to Charles and Myrtle Ashcroft. When Jim was young he lived on the Navajo Reservation with his family. He learned to speak the Navajo language as a young boy. Jim would ride his horse to school on Monday morning 20 miles and stay with the school teacher during the week and ride his horse back home on Friday. He was 6 years old when he would do this. Jim met his wife Zona Shumway while working on a job. She was a waitress in a restaurant and she would give him extra food when he would come in. She got fired for doing that.

Jim and Zona were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple and spent many happy years together. Jim also served in the Navy in WWII. Jim and Zona had 5 children. Andrew who died at birth. Andrea Ashcroft, Dennis Ashcroft, Tauna Lee Ashcroft, and Kelly Ashcroft. Later in life Jim and Zona served 4 missions. These missions brought them closer together. They became inseparable. Jim was preceded in death by his wife Zona S Ashcroft.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 2 PM at the LDS Church building 300 So. 100 W. in Hurricane, UT. A viewing will be held from 12:00-1:45 prior to services.

Burial will be Monday, January 7, 2013 at 11AM at the Greenlawn Cemetery in Farmington, NM. A reception will follow at the LDS Stake Center in Fruitland, NM
