As a young man, Mr. Flagg had numerous occupations, including wagon driver in the Wisconsin pineries, fireman for the Wisconsin Central Railroad, spiker for Iron Mountain railroad and in the lead mines at Joplin, Missouri. He began the study of medicine in 1873 and graduated from Pulte Medical College at Cincinnati, Ohio in 1877
On July 13, 1877 Dr. Flagg married Helen B. Sergeant at Joplin, Missouri. He then practiced medicine in Mindore, Wisconsin for about two years before returning to Cincinnati to attend Eclectic Medical School where he graduated in 1880. Dr. Flagg returned to Joplin to practice medicine and, for a short time, was Dean of Joplin Medical Center. In March of 1884 he moved to Perry, Kansas where he practiced medicine until his death on February 12, 1914.
Dr. Flagg was a former mayor of Perry and served in the Kansas Legislature in 1909. He purchased the Perry Mirror newspaper in 1912 and made his son, Paul Flagg, editor.
Children: Helen Kathleen Flagg Haynes (1878-1956), Edith Dore Flagg (1882-1897), buried in Joplin, Mo., Paul Eldridge Flagg (1890 - ???) and Donald Sergeant Flagg (1894-1944).
