Fort Worth Star-Telegram (TX) - Sunday, May 26, 1996
Deceased Name: Raz Ford
MINERAL WELLS - Raz Ford, 80, a retired car salesman for Ford Motor Co., died Thursday at a Mineral Wells hospital.

Funeral: 2 p.m. Tuesday at Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Chapel. Burial: Woodland Park Cemetery. After the ceremony, the family will greet friends in the Activity Room at Crazy Water Retirement Hotel, 401 N. Oak, Mr. Ford's last residence.

Officiant: The Rev. Father John Nagle and the Rev. Bobby Scott.

Pallbearers: Orrin C. Stevens Jr., Orrin C. Stevens III, Kenneth Ford, Eddie Jensen, Billy Fred Goen, and Bill Patterson, son-in-law of Vaughn Dunaway, a special friend who preceded him in death.

Honorary pallbearers: Frank Key, Elwood Starnes, Ralph Coon, "Concrete" Murphy, George Roberts, and at the specific request of Mr. Ford, the members of the King Bee Coffee Club and the Evening Lions Club.

Mr. Ford, loving father, grandfather, and friend, died Thursday at Palo Pinto General Hospital. He was born Aug. 14, 1915, in Indian Creek and lived in Mineral Wells most of his life.

Although never an elected official, Mr. Ford was a tireless civic supporter and participated in virtually every civic pride event that took place until failing health prevented his active work. And for many years he was a member of King Bee Coffee Club, participating in a 50-year tradition in Mineral Wells, which lasts to this day.

After entering the car business at a Chevrolet dealership in Breckenridge in the Paint and Body Shop, at his manager's suggestion, Mr. Ford moved into auto sales, beginning a sales and customer service career that spanned more than a half-century and included sales to multiple generations of families in the Texas area. This included several years after World War II, in which Mr. Ford operated his own automobile business in Mineral Wells. Mr. Ford then sold Ford automobiles for Russell Whatley Sr., Vaughn Dunaway, and Dunaway-Powell. Mr. Ford was the winner of numerous Ford Motor Co. sales and service awards, including "300-500" Club ( an honor accorded to only 3 percent of the Ford sales professionals in the nation), Top Hatter, Master Sales Counselor for more than 20 years, and Lifetime Sales Achievement awards, one of which resulted in his picture being published in Time magazine. However, of particular enjoyment to him were his last two auto sales, made in February of this year, long after his retirement.

Mr. Ford was a 1967 charter member of the Mineral Wells Evening Lions Club chapter, as well as past president and lifetime member; he particularly enjoyed taking his only grandchild to meetings. He was also a charter member in 1950 of the Mineral Wells chapter of Jaycees International, and past president of the Vintage Car Club. His particular hobbies were collecting coins and arrowheads. Mr. Ford was also past president of the Mineral Wells Coin Club and a member of the Texas Arrowpointand Artifacts Society of Hunters, Appraisers, and Collectors.

Mr. Ford was preceded in death by sisters, Freda Thornton, Elsie Nix, Vera Jensen, and Annie Wilhite; brother, Jack Ford; and parents, James Patterson and Sallie Corine James Ford.

Survivors: He is survived by his beloved daughter, Mary Frances Ford Stevens, her husband, Orrin C. Stevens Jr., grandson, Orrin C. Stevens III, all of Dallas; and former spouse, Oletha Key Ford of Mineral Wells. Other surviving family members include cousin, Ben Ford of Cameron; nieces, Bernice Goen of Mineral Wells, and Betty Louise Stith of Dallas; nephews, Kenneth Ford of Graham, John T. Ford of California, and Eddie Jensen of Houston; sisters-in-law, Thelma Smith and husband Albert, bothof California, Catherine Arterburn of Granbury, Mildred Sheehan of Michigan, and Frances Coon of Mineral Wells; and beloved brothers-in-law, Frank Key and Ralph "Abie" Coon, both of Mineral Wells; cherished friends, Elwood Starnes, Alton "Concrete" Murphy, and George Roberts, all of Mineral Wells, and others too numerous to list.
