Jason Hafelein after a battle with cancer, followed by multiple transplants, Jason has gone to be reunited with his Creator, and countless loved friends and family members.

Jason R. Hafelein was born on Nov. 18, 1977, to Paula M. (Doerr) Bishop and Steven R. Hafelein in Alma. As a child he spent time in Flushing and Sanford. The later years he spent in Sanford, graduating from Meridian High School in 1996, where he was active in wrestling.
After high school he worked at the Mid-Michigan Medical Center in supply and distribution, patient transport, and in the Radiology department.

While working, he met his wife, Bridget M. (Hinson) Hafelein in 1996, they were married in 1999, residing in Coleman until 2006 when he relocated to the Midland area.

He was known fondly for his addictive smile, impressive artistic ability, and the way he made everyone around him laugh with light-hearted humor, sometimes bold jokes, and favorite quotes from movies. Jason enjoyed many things including watching movies, drawing, hanging out with the dogs, cooking elaborate meals for friends, spending time with his niece and nephews, who fondly refer to him as "Uncle Boots," and wouldn't miss WWE Monday Night RAW or Thursday Night IMPACT Wrestling for anything. Some of the most memorable times were the multiple vacations, bonfires, and cookouts with friends.
He was most proud of being an "unofficial" freelance Facebook counselor to multiple friends, just wanting to help in some small way or just lending an ear when needed, and of getting back to school in pursuit of a bachelor's degree in psychology.

Jason is survived by his wife, Bridget M. (Hinson) Hafelein of Midland and their four lovable furry children, Hunter, Kendall, Mackinaw and Berkley; mother and stepfather, Paula M. (Doerr) and Frank Bishop of New Lothrop; father, Steven R. Hafelein of Gladwin; half-sisters, Ann Bishop (Ben Witte) of New Lothrop and Melanie Hafelein of Midland; half-brother, John Bishop (Brenna Hoffman) of New Lothrop; grandparents, Francis Doerr of Flushing, Pauline Robinson of Midland; mother and father-in-law, Mark (Jonnie) Hinson; sister in law, Meggan Hinson; brother-in-law, Troy (Sonja) Hinson; grandparent-in-law, Ronald Orvis of Midland; niece, Azaria Hinson; nephew and Godson, Asher Hinson; nephews, Jordi Hinson, Abel Hinson and Aiden Lorenz; as well as many special aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Jason was preceded in death by his stepmother, Shelly (Robinson) Hafelein; grandfathers, Henry Doerr, William Hafelein and Donald Robinson; grandfather-in-law, Edward Hinson Sr.; grandmother, Lillian Hafelein; grandmothers-in-law, Betty Hinson and Ida Orvis; aunts, Robbin Robinson and Lisa Bishop; and nephews, Elian and Gideon Hinson.

A special thanks to Dr. Greg Yanik, the BMT team and lung transplant team at the University of Michigan for their advice, patience, caring, and concern, Warren Masonic Lodge, OES Coleman Chapter, Carole Schroeder, Midland Oxygen (especially Casey and Tammy), St. Michaels and St. Roberts Parish, and MidMichigan Home Care Hospice.

Funeral services for Jason will take place 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, from the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Chapel, 1200 W. Wheeler St. Gerry Bishop will officiate, with cremation to follow.
