Delbert F. Hixson
Delbert F. "Sye" Hixson, 79, of White, died Wednesday, July 27, 2005, in Excela Health Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. He was born Aug. 2, 1925, in Wooddale, Bullskin Township, a son of the late Preston D. and Nannie Elizabeth Clark Hixson. Sye was a lifelong resident of Bullskin Township. He was a retired coal miner, having worked for U.S. Steel in its Maple Creek Mine. He was also a timberman and worked road construction for Macek Construction of McKees Rocks. Sye was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army, and was a member of the Mt. Pleasant VFW. Sye was an outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish, but most of all he loved being with his grandchildren. Sye is survived by his loving family; his children, Albert G. Hixson and his wife, Robin, David E. Hixson and his wife, Cheryl, and Barry W. Hixson and his wife, Kim, and Rita McKeel and her husband, J.D., all of White, and Barbara Stillman Fissella and her husband, James, of Connellsville; his grandchildren, William Stillman, Anthony Fissella, Nathan and Nina Hixson, Rachel and Joshua Frye, Mercedes McKeel, J.D. McKeel Jr., Melissa Miller, Eric, David R., Staci, Christopher, Jesse, Tara and Tonya Hixson; his great-grandchildren, Hannah and Shyanne Stillman, Brendon Hixson, Lucus Mulhorn, Keera Frye, Bryson Robinson, Ty Miller and Tyler Fissella; his brother, Clifford Hixson, of Ruffsdale; his sisters-in-law, Daisy Hixson, Thelma Hixson and Christina Hixson, all of Connellsville, and Ella Jean Hixson, of Greensburg; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Sye was predeceased by his wife, Mary June Knopsnyder Hixson, in 1993; and six brothers, Elmer "Pete," Donald, Dempsey "Ike," James, John "J.P." and Lindy Clayton "Buck" Hixson. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, the hour of a funeral service, in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 111 E. Green St., Connellsville, with the Rev. Leroy C. Kesler officiating. A committal service and interment will follow in the Knopsnider Cemetery, Saltlick Township. Military rites will be conducted by the Mt. Pleasant VFW.
