BENNINGTON -- Robert Bradford Dewey Sr., 86, formerly of Tinkham West and a lifelong resident of Bennington died Wednesday morning April 9, 2003 at the Vermont Veterans Home where he had resided the past several years.

Mr. Dewey was born in Albany, N.Y. on Oct. 16, 1916. He was the son of Edward W. and Janet Drysdale (Shurtleff) Dewey, he grew up in Bennington where he attended local schools, graduating from Bennington High School in 1934. Mr. Dewey continued his education, attending Irving Preparatory School in Tarrytown, N.Y. and Brown University in Providence, R.I. He was a World War II Air Force veteran. As a first lieutenant he had served in the South Pacific as a navigator.

He was married to the former Dorothy Bush in Malone, N.Y. on Jan. 22, 1942. Working as a lumberman throughout his life, he began his career as a lumberjack working in the woods cutting trees, he later became a lumber product buyer working for many companies including Green Mountain Furniture, H.T. His interest in wood products developed into a hobby which he thoroughly enjoyed - designing and building furniture which he shared with his family.
