The Work Of Death.
Thomas M. Wolfe.
Another well-known citizen of Frederick passed to his long rest this morning, mourned by all in the community who were familiar enough with him to appreciate his many excellent traits of character, his warm-hearted unselfishness, unstinted charitableness of heart, and faithful allegiance to his friends. Thomas M. Wolfe died at 6 o'clock this morning at his home on Record street from a complication of diseases, after a long confinement to his bed. He was a son of the late Adam Wolfe, with whom, when a young man, he learned the tailoring trade. He lived in Baltimore a number of years and was postmaster of Frederick under President Johnson. He was quartermaster of the potomac Home Brigade, organized here, was a member of the City Council, Board of Aldermen and of the last Board of Charities and Correction. He was a staunch Democrat, faithful in the service of his party, but non-partisan in the discharge of his public duties. He was several times appointed by the Governor as Visitor to the several institutions of learning here and took great pride in the progress of local affairs. He was a member of Columbia Lodge, A.F. and A.M. and belonged to the Junior Fire Company. He was first elected a member of the Board of Aldermen March 19, 1873, re-elelcted in 1877 and made president, and in 1880 was defeated for renomination. He married Mrs. Sydney Agnew, of this city, and besides his widow leaves six children. He also leaves two sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Mary Brown, Miss Alice Wolfe: Mr. Frank Wolfe, of Baltimore, and Mr. Edward Wolfe, of Philadelphia. Long will he be born in affectionate rememberance by those friends and associates among whom his genial, warm-hearted nature made him popular and esteemed. Arrangements for the funeral have not as yet been made, but it will take place some time on Sunday. Mr. Wolfe was 53 years, 7 months and one day old.
