Husband of Betty Benakis; loving father John (Karen) Benakis and the late Nick Benakis; dear brother of Gus Benakis; cherished grandfather of Whitney and Nicholas. He was survived by many loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. John was owner and operator of The Blue Lantern Restaurant for over 33 years.
He was an avid sports fan and loved the Bears, White Sox , Bulls and Blackhawks. John loved cooking at home for his family and friends and enjoyed reading and studying cook books.
