John £. Hess, Local Printer, Dies Today
John E. Hess, 51, of 112 West Fourth avenue, prominent Clearfield businessman since 1920, died at the Clearfield Hospital at 6:45 o'clock this morning.
Mr. Hess had been active as a commercial printer here since 1921 when he opened a printing shop in the Mirkin Building onMarket street. In 1927 he moved his printing shop to a building on Healey avenue, behind the borough building, where he maintained it until 1942 when he moved to the corner of Turnpike avenue and Hannah street. He was located there until October, 1947, when he retired from the business.
Previous to his work as a printer, he was employed by the County National Bank.
Funeral services will be held on Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Nicholson Funeral Home here with Rev. W. W. Banks in charge of the services. Interment will be in the Crown Crest Memorial Park.
Mr. Hess had been a lifelong member of the Methodist Church and a charter member of the Clearfield Rotary Club.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; his mother, Mrs. Anabell Hess of Shlremanstown; one sister, Mrs. Helen Henderson of Shiremanstown, and one brother, G. Alfred of Trenton, N. J. Friends may call at the Nicholson Funeral Home Saturday evening, Sunday afternoon and evening and until time of services Monday.
