O. H. Collins, 79, retired Miller druggist, and a resident of Miller for more than half century, passed away Saturday at Memorial Hospital, following a brief illness. He was taken to the hospital Friday, and later that day suffered a stroke, and his death followed on the afternoon of the next day.

Funeral services were held Wednesday from the Presbyterian church, with Rev. L. Hume Ward officiating. Active pall bearers were five nephews; Verne, Burrell and Thomas Collins, Kenneth Miller, and Lloyd Rhodes, and Richard Ellis.

Born in Storm Lake, Iowa, April 25, 1876, the son of Gilbert and Sarah Collins, the deceased came to this country with his parents at the age of six. For a time the family made its home at Ree Heights.

Mr. Collins started his long career as a druggist in 1900, when he purchased the old Cutting store, then operated by Nate Johnson. In 1922 he went into partnership with A. J. Shaw and continued as co-owner of the store until his retirement, 1945, after 45 years of continuous service to the community.

In addition to his drug business, he was actively engaged in rearing and racing horses, through which activity he became widely known in many states. For years he served as one of the racing judges at the State Fair, as a member of the racing board.

He was married November 24, 1896, to Gertrude Furman, at Miller. Mrs. Collins death occurred July 1st, 1945, and since that time he had made his home at the Magness Hotel.
