passes away at 100 years
CROFT, Winnifred Samantha
— 100, of West Dublin, Lunenburg Co., passed away February 20, 2010, in Harbour View Haven Home for Special Care, Lunenburg, after several years of failing health. Born in New Cumberland, November 6, 1909, she was the eldest daughter of the late Milfred and Viola (Himmelman) Corkum and was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was a member of West Dublin United Church, the U.C.W. and was very well-known in her own and surrounding communities, having served as the faithful and obliging West Dublin Post Mistress for many years, retiring in 1970 to enjoy her quiet home life, which included visits from her family and friends, tending her little gardens, caring for her hens, keeping daily diaries and scrapbooks of many interesting events and writing letters. She is survived by her sons, Earle, West Dublin; Wendell, Dartmouth; daughters, Eula (Mansfield) Hirtle, West Dublin; Sandra Frank, Whynott's Settlement; grandchildren, Blake (Yvonne) Hirtle, Wileville; Catherine (Stephen) Dunn, Porter's Lake; Douglas (Barbara) Frank, Brampton, Ont.; Karen (William) Reford, Gilford, Ont.; Carla (Michel) Robichaud, Moncton, N.B.; Crystal Croft, Truro; Laurel Croft, Sydney River; 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth; brothers, Maxwell and Hugh; sister, Doris Ritcey. Funeral directions are entrusted to Sweeny's Funeral Home, Bridgewater. A visitation will be held Tuesday, February 23, from 2-4 p.m. in Sweeny's Funeral Home, Bridgewater. A private graveside service will be held in Brookside Cemetery, West Dublin, Rev. Neil McEwen officiating.
