Married in North Carolina, his first wife is not known and probably died young.

He married again to an unknown wife from Tennessee. She may have been a Hawkins.

On Able's grandson, James Edward Mauldin's death certificate, it states James Edward Mauldin's father was Abe Mauldin and his mother was a Hawkins.

The lady giving the information may have gotten confused about which Abel or Able Mauldin she was referring to. Could it have been that the grandfather Able married a Hawkins because James Edward Mauldin's mother was supposed to be a Welch.

He married again to Dolly C Boston 11 Oct 1836 in Lauderdale county Alabama. She was born in Ireland.

Since Able was in Lauderdale county Alabama to get married to Dolly, and he did have children born in Tennessee, but they were living in Lauderdale county Alabama at the time of his death. It is not understood why Able went back to Lawrence county Tennessee and died there.

After his death, Dolly remarried to James Campbell 12 Sept 1844 in Lauderdale county Alabama and moved to Desoto Mississippi with her two sons.

Note: Absolom Mauldin's son, John Wesley Mauldin named one of his son's Absolom Abel Mauldin, the Mauldin men often named their sons after a father, brother or an uncle.

Children:
Cyrena, Susanna P, Janie, Nancy R, Benjamin R, Abel, James Hughda, John S.

Cemetery Photo permission of Reita Burress.
