Funeral Services Held For Elsie Jones, 81
Mrs. Hurshel (Elsie) Jones, 81, of Meridian, passed away early Sunday morning, September 20, in the Meridian Geriatric Center after a long illness. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, September 21, in the Meridian Church of Christ with Minister Clayton Young officiating. Burial was in the Meridian Cemetery, under the direction of Brister-Lawson Funeral Home. Mrs. Jones was born August 17, 1900 in Clay Co., Alabama. She was a daughter of the late J.A.F. Strickland and Nettie Elder Strickland. She moved with her parents to Texas in 1908 and settled at Agee. She was living in Cayote when she met Hurshel Jones. They married on April 20, 1919, at Valley Mills. She and her husband had lived in Hamilton and Carlsbad, N.M. before moving to Meridian in 1962. Mrs. Jones was a member of the Meridian Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband on Nov. 30, 1980. Survivors included a son. Robert C. Jones of Fort Worth; two sisters, Mrs. Harvey Marshall of Kopperl and Miss Vista Strickland of Meridian; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives. Pallbearers included Charles Howard, O.B. Cosper, David Smith, Smokey Jorgenson, Y.P. Tomlinson an[d] Leon Strickland.
Known to her grandchildren & great-grandchildren as Mama.
