William C. Scarlett, 90, of Mill Run, passed away Thur. Sept. 24, 2015 at his home, with his family at his side. Bill was born May 1, 1925 in Connellsville the first son of the late Richard and Verna Elizabeth Tissue Scarlett. He was a graduate of Connellsville High School with the class of 1942. Bill was a proud United States Army Veteran. He was wounded at the Battle of the Bulge while serving with Patton's Third Army. Bill was presented the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Bill had worked for 33 years at Anchor Hocking Closure Plant 15 in South Connellsville, where he was Manager of Raw Materials. He was the first Cubmaster for Ohiopyle Pack 1. He was a First Aid Instructor for the American Red Cross for over 25 years. He was a Charter Member of the Yough Valley Ambulance Corps, serving in several positions including that of President for multiple years, until the Corps disbanded. He was a member of the NRA, a life member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, the Connellsville VFW #21, Connellsville American Legion Post 301, and the Disabled American Veterans Fayette Chapter 58. Bill was a faithful member of the Indian Creek Baptist Church in Mill Run, where he was a member of the choir and also served as Deacon.

In addition to his parents Bill was predeceased by his sister Margaret Taylor and a nephew Merle Dennis Taylor.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Olive Shaffer Scarlett, his son William E. "Will" Scarlett and wife Candace of Ohiopyle, his daughter Elizabeth S. "Betsy" Chisnell and husband George of Farmington, his grandsons William E. "Wes" Scarlett and wife JoAnna of LaPlata, MD., and David Scarlett of Uniontown, his great grandsons William L.J. Scarlett and Hunter Alan Scarlett of LaPlata, MD., his step granddaughter Jill Chisnell of Pittsburgh, his brother Glenn R. Scarlett and wife Marie of Connellsville, and many nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Family and friends will be received Mon. from 2-4 and 7-9 PM in the Brooks Funeral Home Inc., 111 E. Green St. Connellsville (724-628-1430). Additional viewing will be held Tue. from 11 AM - 12 noon, the hour of a funeral service, in the Indian Creek Baptist Church, 311 Baptist Church Rd., Mill Run, PA. 15464, with Pastor Chris McLaughlin officiating.A committal service and interment will follow in the Indian Creek Baptist Cemetery, Mill Run. Military rites will be conducted at the cemetery by the Valley VFW #12019. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758541, Topeka, KS. 66675-8541.
