Swain Woman Fatally Shot In Her Home
BRYSON CITY - Mrs. Josephine Beck Metcalf, 60, of the Lackey Hill community of Swain County, was shot to death in her home Saturday night, Sheriff W. D. Lewis said.
Her husband, Horace Metcalf 64, was being held for questioning in the fatal shooting, Lewis said.
A neighbor called the sheriff's department about 11:25 p.m. saying a deputy was needed, the sheriff said, and deputies answering the call found Mrs. Metcalf dead in a a bed, shot twice with a .32 revolver.
No formal charges had been filed Sunday night, a sheriff's department spokesman said.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Bill Moody Funeral Home.
