He enlisted Feb., 1778, in Col. Williss' Reg't, Conn. troops, serving two and one half years. His wife, Thankful Eaton/Easton, survived him, and was allowed a pension.
In March, 1811, accompanied by their sons, Nathan and Oliver, Mr. and Mrs. Cleland settled in the town of Charlotte where another son, John, Jr., had settled the previous year.

Stone still upright and in quite good condition; there is a small stone and white cross in front of stone, unknown who they are for.
