Darwin’s son Sir Francis (1848-1925) studied at Trinity College (B.A. 1870) and became a Fellow of Christ’s on 8 December 1888, and Honorary Fellow in 1906. Two of Darwin’s other sons made their lives in Cambridge. Sir George Darwin (1845-1912) was educated at Trinity College (B.A. 1868) and became Plumian Professor of Astronomy and Experimental Philosophy at Cambridge in 1883. He purchased Newnham Grange in 1885. His daughter Gwen Raverat (1885-1957) wrote a delightful account of growing up at Newnham Grange in Period piece: A Cambridge childhood (1952.) Darwin College was founded on the site in 1964. Sir Horace Darwin (1851-1928) was also educated at Trinity College, Cambridge. He received his B.A. in 1874. He became the Founder and Director of the Cambridge Instrument Co., Botolph Lane, Cambridge and was Mayor of Cambridge between 1896 and 1897. Sir Charles Galton Darwin (1887-1962), a grandson, was 29th Master of Christ’s between 1936 and 1939. Descendants of Darwin remain members of the University of Cambridge to this day; Sirs Francis, George and Horace Darwin are all buried in Cambridge, with four of out five wives and some family members.

She and her husband had five children, one of whom was Gwen Raverat who is buried with him in the Trumpington Extension Cemetery, Cambridge. She was cremated at Cambridge Crematorium on February 10, 1947 and her remains presumed to be interred in this grave. Her baby son Leonard, who died in December 1899, is also buried in Trumpington Extension, together with Harriet Frances Keynes, who died in May 1918.

A member of the Ladies Dining Society, of which there were 12 members, including both Lady Ida Darwin and Lady Maud Darwin:

The Church Cemetery -about a mile distant and incorrectly (?) described as the "Parish Extension" or "New Churchyard".

The extension churchyard - opened on land adjacent to the original churchyard which was not available at the time the church cemetery was created.
