Phene Addie Lee Whigham was born at Collomburg, Choctaw, Alabama to late Thomas J and Mary Elizabeth "Lizzie" Jones Whigham-Lott. She had one sister, Phene Craige, and three brothers, Arthur, Coleman, and Johnny Whigham, who are all deceased. She first married to Allen Calvin Shanks (1919-1983) on January 27, 1937. They had one son; Frank Calvin Shanks. Aunt Addie Lee joined the Center Ridge Baptist Church in 1940. She helped out with first Easter program and organized the first church choir. She was the president of the youth choir, usher board, and Good Samaritan Prayer Band. She was a Church mother, member of the Mission, and Sunday School teacher. She organized the Sunshine Club for the boys and the Chit-Chat Club for the girls, where she taught them etiquette and posture. Aunt Addie Lee was a member of the Heroines of Jericho, and DeSoto Historical Society. She was a counselor, nurse, and a business woman. She had a store called "The Kids Korner" where she sold hot fish, hamburgers, sodas, candy bars, potato chips, and other goodies.

After the death of Allen Shanks, she married second to Ossie Mae Roberts (1911-2004) and continued to serve faithfully within the church and community until her health began to fail in the recent years. In the later years Aunt Addie Lee lost her sight and lacked energy to walk. She was addmitted to the Lakeside Living Center Nursing Home in Quitman in the last few month of her death.

However in May, 2012, Aunt Addie Lee received an Honorary Doctorate Degree from the New Foundation Theological Seminary of Jackson, MS. "Aunt Lee" leaves behind a great legacy for us to cherish and will be greatly missed in the church and in the community.
