Marietta A. Conrad, 88, of Houghton, passed away Thursday, December 27, 2012 at 1:12 p.m. at the Park Place Long Term Care Unit in Mount Pleasant.
Born July 16, 1924 in West Point, Iowa the daughter of George and Anna Stuekerjuergen Mehmert. On July 9, 1946 she married Leonard F. Conrad at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in West Point. He preceded her in death on June 28, 2004.
Survivors include three daughters: Pat (husband Jim) Holt of Davenport, Iowa, Judi (husband Sam) Collora of Mount Pleasant, Iowa and Brenda (husband Jeff) Menke of Peoria, Illinois. Five sons: Frank (wife Susan) Conrad of Donnellson, Iowa, Thomas (wife Trinh) Conrad of Burlington, Iowa, Jeff Conrad of Keosauqua, Iowa, Ron (wife Janet) Conrad of Orlando, Florida and Kevin (wife Barb) Conrad of Hillsboro, Iowa. Twenty two grandchildren. Fourteen great grandchildren. Four sisters: Rosie Ping of West Point, Iowa, Cecilia Kruse of Donnellson, Iowa, Gertie (Leroy) Kruse of Houghton, Iowa and Ruth (Bill) Meylor of Rockford, Illinois. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Leonard, two brothers Bernard and Joe and one sister Martha Moeller.
Marietta was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Houghton, Iowa and St. Ann's Circle Daughters of Isabella. She worked in the kitchen of the Houghton Knights of Columbus for many years and helped with the St. John's Cookie Drive. Marietta enjoyed baking cakes and singing in the St. John's Choir.
Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 30, 2012 at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Houghton where there will be a Daughters of Isabella Rosary at 3:00 p.m. and a Christian Wake service at 5:00 p.m. The family will meet with friends from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the church.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 31, 2012 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Houghton, Iowa with Father Gary Beckman as Celebrant. Burial will be in the St. John's Church Cemetery in Houghton.
Memorials may be made in her memory to St. John's Catholic Church.
