Harold D. Dent, 70, of Muncie, passed away Saturday morning at Ball Memorial Hospital.
Harold was born in Kansas City, MO, to the late Kenneth and Helen Dent. He grew up in Kansas City, MO, and went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Kansas State University. He later earned his Master's Degree in Business from M.I.T.
Harold was a business executive having worked for International Harvester for over 30 years before his retirement in 1991. After his retirement he went to work for AGCO International for a few years and then spent 10 years working for his church, Johns Creek United Methodist Church, in Duluth, GA. While working for John's Creek United Methodist Church, he helped in building projects for the church, and helped build the congregation from 250 to over 2,000 members. He was also instrumental in growing various other church activities, including many youth programs. For his hard work and dedication the church dedicated a bench in his name.
Harold moved to Muncie in May of 2008. Since his move he became a member of High Street United Methodist Church where he was a council member, taught Sunday School and Bible Study. He enjoyed golf, but his favorite past time was spending time with his family. He believed in faith, family, friends, and fitness, in that order.
Harold is survived by his loving wife of nearly 50 years, Judy Dent of Muncie; their two children, Doug Dent (wife-Randi) of Yorktown, IN, and Jeanne Daszkiewicz (husband-Stas) of Chicago, IL; five grandchildren; two sisters, Barbara Dent of Mission, KS, and Margaret Hickey (husband-Joe) of Dayton, OH; five nieces and nephews and several cousins.
A funeral service to celebrate Harold's life will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Elm Ridge Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Elm Ridge Memorial Park. Friends and family may gather to share and remember from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Elm Ridge Funeral Home.
