William Lee was the son of Joshua Huston and Barbara Shinkle. He was married to Clementine Shinkle who passed away prior to 1858, as well as his son, Columbus, with a second child, Lucinda Jane (Jennie) born in 1846, surviving. He was married to Katherine (Kate) Gates in Bracken County, Kentucky, in 1858 and had two children with her: Anna L born in 1857 and William E Huston in 1861, born 7 days following William's death. The family lived near Flower Creek post office in rural Pendleton County.
