Eudene Rood, 87, of Gretna, Nebraska, (formerly of Genoa and Columbus) died Monday, December 24, 2012, at the Hillcrest Country Estates in Papillion, Nebraska.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 29 at 11:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church in Columbus, Nebraska, with Rev. Bill Ritter officiating. Interment will be in the Looking Glass Cemetery, rural Newman Grove, Nebraska. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the American Red Cross Bloodmobile or Camp Fontanelle.
Eudene Rood was born June 1, 1925, in rural Nance County, Nebraska, to Jess and Pauline (Dudney) Major. Eudene attended school in Fullerton before moving to Genoa where she graduated from Genoa High School in 1942. On December 4, 1942, Eudene was united in marriage to Irving Rood in Genoa. After Irving was discharged from the U.S. Army, they returned to Genoa. Eudene was employed as a bookkeeper for several Genoa businesses including the Genoa Medical office of Drs. Dalton and Bass. In 1994 they moved to Columbus and in 2005 they moved to Gretna. Eudene served on the Genoa Library Board, served on both local and district offices for the United Methodist Women, and as chair of the Red Cross Bloodmobile program. She also volunteered at the Columbus Community Hospital and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Columbus.
