Geo. H. Smith died at Mayo Bros. Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota, Monday November 4 of diabetes. He had been ill for an indefinite time and a year ago went to the hospital, where his left foot was amputated. Four weeks ago he went to Rochester and submitted to the amputation of his right foot. His condition did not improve and he gradually grew worse until death relieved him. Mr. Smith resided at Endeavor and he had many friends in Portage. He was a brother-in-law of John and Peter Cockroft of this city. He is survived by two brothers, Isaac and James Smith of Moundville, and three sisters, Mrs. Jas. Perkins of Endeavor, Mrs. Alfred Audiss of Moundville and Mrs. Geo. Hill of Ashland. His wife died three years ago. Mr. Smith was born in the town of Moundville 56 years ago. The remains will be brought to Portage tomorrow and will be take to Moundville for burial. The funeral arrangements are not yet complete. John Cockroft of this city and Chas. Perkins of Endeavor left Monday to bring the remains to Portage.
