Nobility. Countess of Ponthieu and Aumale in her own right and queen consort of Castile and Leon by marriage. The eldest daughter of Simon de Dammartin and Marie de Ponthieu, she married Ferdinand III of Castile in 1235 and bore him five children, including Eleanor, later Queen of England. She succeeded her father as Countess of Aumale in 1239 and her mother as Countess of Ponthieu and Montreuil in 1251. A dispute ensued between her and her stepson Alfonso X following Ferdinand's death over the lands and income she was entitled to as the dowager queen. As a result of her strained relationship with Alfonso, she returned to Ponthieu to marry Jean de Nesle in 1261.
