PRINCETON - Hazel Hatcher Posey, 89, of 304 Highland Ave., Princeton, was dead on arrival Wednesday at a Princeton hospital. Born in Avondale, she was the daughter of the late Thomas E. and Exie Caldwell Hatcher Sr. She had been a resident of Princeton since 1977 coming from Nemours and was a retired school teacher having taught in Tazewell County Schools for 42 years. She was a member of the Virginia Education Association and the National Education Association. She was a member of the Kee Street United Methodist Church and the Weatherford Fellowship of the church. She was also a member of the Nemours Home Demonstration Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James T. Posey Sr.; one brother, E.O. Hatcher; two sisters, Eunice Wright and Maxine Pennington. Survivors: son, James T. Posey Jr., of Princeton, with whom she made her home; daughter, Judy Greenspon of Charlottesville, Va.; brothers, Gentry Hatcher and Justin Hatcher, both of Princeton, Thomas E. Hatcher Jr., of Centreville, Va., and Adair Hatcher of Fairfax, Va.; sister, Virginia Hatcher of Princeton; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at George W. Seaver Funeral Home Chapel in Princeton with the Rev. Joe Shreve officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, Va. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Ken Conner, Jim Sparks, Joe Wheby, Curtis Waddell, Reed Wheby, Allen Pendleton and Steven Pendleton.
