E. Maxine Shotwell

E. Maxine Shotwell, 79, of Blair, died Monday, June 23, 2008, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, June 26, at First United Methodist Church in Blair. There will be no visitation.

Evelyn Maxine Shotwell was born Jan. 19, 1929, in Washington County to Jesse and Anna (Nelson) Davis of Herman.

In February of 1947, she married Paul R. Schneider; they had three children. She was a housewife and worked many years at Anderson’s Pharmacy. Mr. Schneider died in May of 1984.

On Jan. 19, 1985, she married John Shotwell. Mrs. Shotwell helped her husband at the Blair Glass Company until it was sold in 1990. She spent many hours as a volunteer in the hospital thrift store until health stopped her. Then she baked for the MCH Auxiliary rummage sale for many years. (Note: Memorial Community Hospital) Her past years were spent volunteering for the Washington County Recycling Association, where she baked goodies for the volunteers.

She is survived by her husband, John; two daughters, Millie Conner of Tekamah and Karen Andreasen of Blair; a son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Kristi Schneider of Wichita, Kan.; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three sisters, Madeline Carlson of Blair, Billie (Mrs. Howard) Cook of Kennard and Nina Phalen of Lyons; a brother, Jessie “Bud” Davis of Shippensburg, Penn.

In addition to her first husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles, Howard and Alan Davis; and a sister, Dorothy Tranmer.

Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

NOTES:

Maxine Davis was the daughter of Jessie and Anna Davis. At the time of her birth, the family lived in Grant township, Washington county, Nebraska. By 1940, the family had relocated just north to Craig township, Burt county, Nebraska.

On February 20, 1946, Maxine Davis married Paul Schneider, a Staff Sergeant who served in the US Army in World War II, in Washington County, Nebraska. The Schneider's were regarded as great neighbors, a very fun loving couple, and a pleasure to be around.

Paul passed away on May 14, 1984, and on January 19, 1985, Maxine married Titus "John" Shotwell in Washington County, Nebraska as his second wife. As recalled by friend and neighbor, Connie Buller, "Maxine and John were active in the Methodist Church of Blair. They cooked for the weekly Methodist Church suppers, which were open to the community, with the proceeds going to benefit the church."

Maxine was further recalled by Ms. Buller to be "a great cook, in later years sending homemade cinnamon rolls and other desserts to the volunteers at Washington County Recycling Association on Saturday mornings."

Ms. Davis-Schneider-Shotwell, in summary, was widely regarded as someone who possessed a positive and sunny disposition. She was kind, considerate, very civic minded and generous in spirit. She is remembered as someone who strove to make the Blair a community a better place to live, and I am sure that is exactly what she did.
