A cement mason and small business owner, Mr. Abril was active in labor as well and served on the executive board of Cement Mason Local 394. He was an Army paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division during World War II and a member of the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Hope; daughters, Mary Ellen Ruiz, Pauline Garcia, Diane Nunez, Donna Granado and Joanne Salazar; sons, Anthony Jr. and John Miranda; sister Lupe; brothers, Steve, Gabriel, Frank and William; 23 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. today at St. Catherine of Sienna Catholic Church, 6200 S. Central Ave., with rosary at 7:30 p.m. Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to the Kidney Foundation, 4019 N. 44th St., Phoenix, AZ 85018. Botimer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
