BATES, JOHN T. - Funeral services for John T. Bates, 76, retired farmer of Trenton were held January 15 at the Church of Christ in Trenton, with Elder Ivason of Milan and Elder of Trenton officiating. Burial was in Walnut Grove cemetery near Trenton. Mr. Bates, who died in a Humboldt hospital, had been in failing health for some time. He had lived in Gibson County since 1919. The son of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Bates, he was a member of the Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter. Survivors are his widow, Mrs. America Downey Bates; three daughters, Mrs. J. L. Loveless of Centerville; Mrs. L. A. Morris of McKenzie; Mrs. A. J. Williams of Milan; four sons, Cecil of Trenton; Horace of Bradford, Otis of Chicago, Ill., and Fred of Trenton; fifteen grand-children, seven great-grandchildren, his step-mother, Mrs. Bell Bates of Nashville; three sisters, Mrs. A. W. Garner of Nashville, Mrs. J. L. Fort of Selmer, Ala., Mrs. Carl West of Tullahoma, and one brother, Charlie Bates of New York.
