MOS:11B1P Infantryman (Airborne Qual.)
When Edward arrived in Vietnam 28 May 1965, he was assigned to B Company, 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry, 173rd Airborne Brigade, US Army Support Command, Vietnam MACV.
While on a combat operation the company was engaged by hostile forces on the north side of the Dong Nai River. Edward died as a result of gunshot wounds to the chin and neck from hostile small arms fire.
Survived by his mother, Rosa J Almeida and his 2 brothers; Mark A and Luke M Almeida all of 50 School St, New Bedford and his father; Joseph C Almeida of 143 Walnut, New Bedford, MA.
His father is now deceased and burial location
