1. Four affidavits relating to the births of four children of Jonathan and Nancy (Sherbine) Colbert:

A.D. 1866, personally appeared before me, a Prothonotary in and for said County and State, Rachel Colbert, to me well known as a credible witness, who being duly sworn according to law, did depose and say that she was present on the 22d day of March A.D. 1858, at Purdinsville, in Cambria County and State of Pennsylvania, when a male child was born to Mrs. Nancy Colbert, wife of Jonathan Colbert, late a member of Comp. D, 13th Regt., Pa. Cav. I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt from your Office of application for Pension No. 95912, and to return it herewith, with such information as is furnished by the files of this Office.
It appears from the Rolls on file in this Office, that Jonathan Colbert was enrolled on the 20th day of Augt, 1863, at Altoona in Co. D, 13th Regiment of Penn. Cav. Volunteers, to serve 3 years, or during the war, and mustered into service as a Private on the 16th day of Sept. 1863, at Harrisburg, in Co. D, 13th Regiment of Penn. Cav. Volunteers, to serve 3 years, or during the war. On the Muster Roll of Co. D of that Regiment, for the months of Jan & Feb 1865, he is reported "Died Jany. 19th 1865 in Rebel Prison at Salisbury N.C. whilst a Prisoner of war" Cause of Death, not stated.

3. INCREASE FOR WIDOW'S, Act of July 25th, 1866.
State of Pennsylvania, County of Blair, SS. On this eighth day of September, 1866 before me the undersigned Prothonotary in and for the County and State aforesaid, personally appeared Mrs. Nancy Colbert, a resident of Frankstown in the County of Blair State of Penna. aged 32 years, who being duly sworn according to law, doth on her oath make the following declaration, in order to obtain the benefits of the provision made by the 2d Section of the Act of Congress increasing the Pension of Widows and Orphans approved July 25th, 1866. That she is the Widow of Jonathan Colbert who was a Private in Co. "D" in the 13th Regiment of Penna. Vols. in the war of 1861, and that by reason of his death in the Service aforesaid, she has been granted a Pension of $8 per month, in accordance with a certificate numbered 19935 bearing date 17th April 1866. She further swears that she has the following named children of her deceased husband and herself under sixteen years of age, who are now living, the dates of whose births are given below to wit: James, March 22d 1858; Samuel, born July 12, 1860; Elizabeth, born July 22d 1862; Ellen, born April 28th 1864, that there is no public or private record of the birth of said children and that the evidence hereto attached is the best and only evidence she can furnish and that the said children are the only legitimate children of herself and deceased soldier.
She further declares that she has not remarried since the death of her said husband, nor has she abandoned the support of any one of the children above named, nor permitted any one of the same to be adopted by any other person or persons as his, her or their child. And she hereby constitutes, makes and appoints MATHEWS, POULSON & CO., her agents, No. 808 Walnut Street, Philadelphia, Penn., as her lawful attorneys with power of substitution, and desires that her certificate of Pension when issued be sent to their care and that her Post Office address is Frankstown, Blair Co. Pa.

Colbert aged 31 years and also William Colbert aged 26 years both known to me as respectable witnesses entitled honor'd and Residents of Johnstown, Pa., who being duly sworn according to law did depose and say that they were both present in Johnstown Cambria Co. Penna. on the 24th day of March A.D. 1853 when the Rev. Mr. Wagner a Preacher of the Welsh United Brethren denomination married Jonathan Colbert late a member of Comp. D. 13 Penn. Cav. and Nancy Sherbine now Nancy Colbert his widow, that said Revd. Mr. Wagner has moved away from Johnstown and his residence is unknown to deponents and further that they are not interested in this Mrs. Colbert's application for Pension.

Dear Sir: I have an inquiry I would like to make of the record of a Johnathan Colbert, name also borne as Jonathan Colbert, of Company D, 13th Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteer Cavalry, who died Jan. 19, 1865 in Prison at Andersonville, Georgia, a private, as to his birth place and his parentage.
I am advised from the War Department that I may be able to obtain this information from this office.

From the papers on file in the case of Nancy Colbert, widow of the above-named veteran, it appears that Jonathan Colbert and Nancy Sherbine were married March 24, 1853 at Johnstown, Pennsylvania, by one, Reverend William Wagoner of the Welsh United Brethren's denomination. From a statement on file dated May 6, 1865, John C. Colbert and William Colbert, of Johnstown, Pennsylvania stated that they were present at the marriage.
No information is available relative to the veteran's birthplace or his parents.

I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt from your Office of application for Pension No. 95912, and to return it herewith, with such information as is furnished by the files of this Office.
It appears from the Rolls on file in this Office, that Jonathan Colbert was enrolled on the 20th day of Augt, 1863, at Altoona in Co. D, 13th Regiment of Penn. Cav. Volunteers, to serve 3 years, or during the war, and mustered into service as a Private on the 16th day of Sept. 1863, at Harrisburg, in Co. D, 13th Regiment of Penn. Cav. Volunteers, to serve 3 years, or during the war. On the Muster Roll of Co. D of that Regiment, for the months of Jan & Feb 1865, he is reported "Died Jany. 19th 1865 in Rebel Prison at Salisbury N.C. whilst a Prisoner of war" Cause of Death, not stated.

3. INCREASE FOR WIDOW'S, Act of July 25th, 1866.
State of Pennsylvania, County of Blair, SS. On this eighth day of September, 1866 before me the undersigned Prothonotary in and for the County and State aforesaid, personally appeared Mrs. Nancy Colbert, a resident of Frankstown in the County of Blair State of Penna. aged 32 years, who being duly sworn according to law, doth on her oath make the following declaration, in order to obtain the benefits of the provision made by the 2d Section of the Act of Congress increasing the Pension of Widows and Orphans approved July 25th, 1866. That she is the Widow of Jonathan Colbert who was a Private in Co. "D" in the 13th Regiment of Penna. Vols. in the war of 1861, and that by reason of his death in the Service aforesaid, she has been granted a Pension of $8 per month, in accordance with a certificate numbered 19935 bearing date 17th April 1866. She further swears that she has the following named children of her deceased husband and herself under sixteen years of age, who are now living, the dates of whose births are given below to wit: James, March 22d 1858; Samuel, born July 12, 1860; Elizabeth, born July 22d 1862; Ellen, born April 28th 1864, that there is no public or private record of the birth of said children and that the evidence hereto attached is the best and only evidence she can furnish and that the said children are the only legitimate children of herself and deceased soldier.
She further declares that she has not remarried since the death of her said husband, nor has she abandoned the support of any one of the children above named, nor permitted any one of the same to be adopted by any other person or persons as his, her or their child. And she hereby constitutes, makes and appoints MATHEWS, POULSON & CO., her agents, No. 808 Walnut Street, Philadelphia, Penn., as her lawful attorneys with power of substitution, and desires that her certificate of Pension when issued be sent to their care and that her Post Office address is Frankstown, Blair Co. Pa.

State of Pennsylvania County of Blair, SS. On this 6th day of May A.D. 1865 personally appeared before me Prothy. of the Common Pleas Court in and for said County John E. Colbert aged 31 years and also William Colbert aged 26 years both known to me as respectable witnesses entitled honor'd and Residents of Johnstown, Pa., who being duly sworn according to law did depose and say that they were both present in Johnstown Cambria Co. Penna. on the 24th day of March A.D. 1853 when the Rev. Mr. Wagner a Preacher of the Welsh United Brethren denomination married Jonathan Colbert late a member of Comp. D. 13 Penn. Cav. and Nancy Sherbine now Nancy Colbert his widow, that said Revd. Mr. Wagner has moved away from Johnstown and his residence is unknown to deponents and further that they are not interested in this Mrs. Colbert's application for Pension.

Dear Sir: I have an inquiry I would like to make of the record of a Johnathan Colbert, name also borne as Jonathan Colbert, of Company D, 13th Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteer Cavalry, who died Jan. 19, 1865 in Prison at Andersonville, Georgia, a private, as to his birth place and his parentage.
I am advised from the War Department that I may be able to obtain this information from this office.

From the papers on file in the case of Nancy Colbert, widow of the above-named veteran, it appears that Jonathan Colbert and Nancy Sherbine were married March 24, 1853 at Johnstown, Pennsylvania, by one, Reverend William Wagoner of the Welsh United Brethren's denomination. From a statement on file dated May 6, 1865, John C. Colbert and William Colbert, of Johnstown, Pennsylvania stated that they were present at the marriage.
No information is available relative to the veteran's birthplace or his parents.
