Mrs. Martha Jane Stephens of 318 South Vine street, prepared and served her birthday and Thanksgiving dinner here Thursday. She was 89 years old. Twenty two relatives and friends enjoyed the happy occasion.

Those present were her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs, Grover Ferguson, of Commerce and a son and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Stephens, of Miami; grandchildren, Mr. and Mrs. Gifford Foster, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Cox, Benny Ferguson and Larry Ferguson, and the following great-grandchildren, Karen Sue and Dennis Foster, Linda and Judy Cox, and Charles Ferguson of Commerce. Other relatives and friends were Mr. and Mrs, 0.M.Stephens of Fairland and Mrs. Veda Odneal and son, Charles, of Commerce.

The day was highlighted for Mrs. Stephens by a telephone,call from another son and his wife Mr. and Mrs, Eddie Stephens, of Anaheim, Calif."

"Final Rites Friday For Mrs. Stephens, Commerce Pioneer

COMMERCE (Special) - Funeral services will be held Friday for Mrs. Martha Jane Stephens, pioneer Commerce resident who died Tuesday afternoon at Miami Baptist hospital at the age of 93.

Mrs. Stephens had lived here since 1909. In that year she and her husband, Robert Stephens, now deceased, established the first drug store in Commerce (then Hattonville).

Mrs. Stephens, who resided at 398 South Vine street, belonged to the First Baptist church where final rites will be held Friday, starting at 2 p.m. The Rev. Tom Cossairt, pastor, and the Rev. Ward Allen, Miami, will officiate. Burial will be in GAR cemetery under direction of the Jim Thomas mortuary.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Grover Ferguson, Commerce; two sons,Austin Stephens, Miami, and Eddie Stephens, Anaheim, Calif.; six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

The body will lie in state at the Stephens home from 2 p.m. Thursday until the funeral hour. Pallbearers will include Col. Roy E. Ferguson, T/Sgt. Davie L. Ferguson, Bennie Ferguson, Charles Ferguson, Clifford Foster and Clifford Cox.
