He was the husband of Ellen M. (King) Herb.
Born in Myerstown, he was a son of the late Grant and Christine (Steffy) Herb.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran, having served in Fontanbleau, France, from 1962-1964.
He was a 1955 graduate of Lebanon High School and then attended Temple University. He graduated from Temple School of Dentistry receiving his D.D.S. in 1962.
Dr. Herb was an avid golfer and tennis player and loved vintage cars, especially enjoying his Mercedes Benz Collection. He was a member of the American Dental Association, Pennsylvania Dental Association, Montgomery/Bucks Dental Society and the Pottstown Dental Study Club. He was a member of the Delta Sigma Delta Fraternity at Temple School of Dentistry and was a longtime member at both Brookside Country Club and the Spring-Ford Country Club.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters Diane M., wife of Donald Rutherford of Watertown, N.Y., Dr. Kathleen E. Herb, wife of Charles A. Brower Jr. of Doylestown, Andrea L., wife of Richard J. Bourne of
Cherry Hill, N.J., Julie H., wife of David J. Eckrote Jr. of Limerick; grandchildren Cory P. Rutherford, Thomas J. Bourne, Devin R. Bourne, Samantha L. Bourne.
Funeral services will be held in Catagnus Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 711 N. Franklin St., Pottstown, Pa., on Wednesday at 1 p.m. Interment will be in St. Aloysius (New) Cemetery, Pottstown. Friends may call on Tuesday evening from 7-8:30 p.m. and again on Wednesday from 12-1 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions for area college bound youth can be made to the Dr. Thomas G. Thomas G. Herb, 68, of Pottstown, a dentist in Pottstown for 42 years, passed away Friday at home of sarcoidosis, an inflammatory disease that damaged his heart.
A native of Myerstown, Pa., Dr. Herb earned his bachelor's and dental degrees from Temple University. After serving in the Army in France, he opened a practice on High Street in Pottstown in 1964. He was a member of the Pottstown Dental Study Club and several professional organizations. He retired in January.
Dr. Herb enjoyed tennis and golf and was a member of the Brookside Country Club in Pottstown and the Spring Ford Country Club in Royersford. He loved Mercedes-Benzes and owned a half-dozen vintage models over the years.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Ellen King Herb; daughters Diane Rutherford, Kathleen Brower, Andrea Bourne and Julie Eckrote; and four grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. tomorrow at Catagnus Funeral Home, 711 N. Franklin St., Pottstown. Friends may call from noon tomorrow, and from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today. Burial will be in St. Aloysius New Cemetery, Pottstown.
