Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 3, 2002 at 1:00 PM in LaChapelle de Martin & Castille for Marie J. Curtis, age 84, the former Marie Jones, who died on Friday, March 1, 2002 at 4:20 PM in the Lafayette General Medical Center. Entombment will be in the Fountain Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The Rev. Richard Lisk, Assoc. Pastor, First Baptist Church of Lafayette, will conduct the services. Melody Thibodaux, organist, will sing for the services, "Peace In The Valley", "Old Rugged Cross", Because He Lives", "The Lord's Prayer", and, "How Great Thou Art". Survivors include one daughter Jaunice Taylor and her husband, George of Sugarland, TX; two sons, Norman Curtis of Arnaudville and Kenneth Curtis and wife, Holly of Lafayette; eleven grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; one brother, Lilburn Jones of Crosby, TX;and her devoted neighbors who she considered like daughter and son, Bonnie and Tom Barron. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Ray Curtis; three brothers, Wiley, Gilbert, and James W Jones: and one sister, Tempy Tennison. A native of Teague, TX and a resident of Lafayette since 1961, Mrs Curtis was the daughter of the late James Harrison Jones and the former, Louisa Parthina Jones. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Visiting hours will be observed on Sunday from 9:00 am until time of services. Pallbearers will be Curtis Joe Nelson, Kenneth Ray Nelson, Ricky Curtis, Wayne Curtis, Freddie Curtis and Tom Barron.
