Death this morning at 2 o’clock claimed one of Hagerstown’s best known women, Mrs. Mary Virginia Middlekauff, proprietress of the Washington House when that hostelry was destroyed by fire in 1879, was in two other hotel fires during her life, but escaped injury in all of them.
Before her marriage to the late George Middlekauff, the deceased was a Miss Cunningham. She was a member of Zion Reformed Church for a number of years.
Two grandchildren, Mrs. Georgie E. Wishard, of Philadelphia, & Miss Mary Virginia Middlekauff of Los Angeles, survive her.
The funeral will be held on Friday afternoon, services at Zion Reformed Church by Rev. Scott R. Wagner at 4 o’clock. Interment at Rose Hill.
