Funeral services for Mrs. Mary E. Phillips, 79 years of age, were held Wednesday morning at Reed's Chapel with the Rev. Harvey Morrison in charge, assisted by Rev. R. L. Sleamaker. Burial was in the Phillips Cemetery. Mrs. Phillips, a native of the county, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H. H. Steger near Hatcher, after an illness of several months. She was a lifetime member of the Reed's Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She united in marriage to James S. Phillips in 1885, who preceded her in death in February 1945. To this union six sons and two daughters were born. Surviving are: Ollie Phillips, Akron, Ohio; Walker Phillips, Mrs. H. H. Steger, county; Mrs. Warren Kennedy, Detroit. She also leaves a brother and two sisters: Bynum Benningfield, of Marion County, Miss Flora Benningfield, New Market, and Mrs. T. M. Jarboe, county, and five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were: Eugene Blakey, Jessie Eubanks, Bill Petot, Bob Blakey, Chilton Pike, and Harry Fawcett.
