Charles Edward Smith Senior was the sixth burial in the Smith Family Cemetery. Charles Edward Smith Senior was born in the Caseys District 469 of Fulton County now known as Bolton. He married to Nora Lula Kendrick on the 3rd day of January 1904 and they had 6 children. Four of which never reached adulthood. Leaving Mary Alice Smith the oldest daughter born in 1908 and Charles Edward Smith Junior being the youngest born in 1915 as the only surviving two children. Charles Edward Smith Junior was 18 months old when his father Charles Edward Smith Senior who was a car inspector for the Southern Railroad working the grave shift was killed in a accident in Inman Yards in NW Atlanta Fulton County. Besides Charles Edward Smith Senior being a rail car inspector for the railroad he was a alcoholic. His nickname was "Wild Charlie" because he was always doing wild and crazy things. The story goes told by a family member through the years was that he was drunk and fell off the front of a box car while it was moving and was ran over and killed. It is not known who handled his services. He lived 31 years 3 weeks and 4 days. Upon his death Mama Smith dropped the Junior from her son's name. After that he was called Charles Edward Smith. The photo you see of Charles Edward Smith Senior is my grandfather and is the ONLY known photo of him given to me by the last living family member at that time. This Photo was handed down to me from my dad's sister my aunt Mary Alice Smith Love Wolfe. I grew up seeing this photo on her wall in her bed room as far back as I can remember. She always told me that it would be mind someday. She gave me this photo in the late 70's in it's present condition.
