John G. McGaughey - a son of James & Nancy (Grier) McGaughey; James died in PA, in 1848; Nancy died in Industry Twp., this county (McDonough), in 1852. John G. was born in Adams Co., PA, Dec 9, 1808, learned the trade of blacksmithing; moved to Doddsville, ILL., in 1844; later farmed in Industry Twp.; married Jun. 18, 1835, in PA., to Hester Walker; had a number of children including: James B., Mary A., Andrew W., Mary J., Nancy, Hugh, John, William, Robert, and C. W.; the latter two died in infancy. Hester died in 1874, and Mr. McGaughey remarried in 1875, to Mrs. Susan M. Ellis. Farmed on section 9, Industry Twp.; John also lived in Putnam Co., Ind., before moving to Illinois. Note: In 1860 the following children were living in the household of John & Hetty McGaughey: James, age 24, b. PA; Andrew, 20, b. Ind.; Mary, 17, b: Ind.; Nancy, 14, b. Ill.; Hugh, 13, b. Ill.; John, 10, b. Ill.; and Robert, 4, b. Ill.; also Wm. Walker, age 20, was living with them in Industry Twp.
