Ray retired from Pinkney Mills after 45 years of service.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, James F. "Tiny", Lonnie, Artis and Charles, Jr. "Jim" Hill; sisters, Estelle Hughes, Etheleen Holden, Grace Whitworth, Jeanette Gibson, Ruth Lutz and Susie Quinn.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Maxine Long Hill; his sons: Hilton, Arvel, Charlie, Carroll, Tim Hill, Jimmy Nivens, daughters,
Vanessa Whitaker and Lynn Workman; and a sister-in-law Sadie Hill; 21 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 3 until 4 p.m. prior to the service.
Celebration of Life service will be 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011, at Yorkwood Church of God with Pastor Joel Shirley and Pastor Tommy Holbrooks officiating.
Interment will follow immediately at Olney Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home, 2916 Union Road, Gastonia, is caring for the family.
