Dorothy had a passion for education and knew that she wanted to be a teacher from the time she was five years old. She received her A.B. from Harris Teachers College, followed by a Master's in Education from Columbia University's Teachers College in New York City. Dorothy taught for a total of 32 years, in grades ranging from kindergarten to middle school. She began her career at Hempstead School in the St. Louis Public School District, where she taught for 16 years. She also taught for 16 years in Parkway School District at Weber School and at Craig School.
