Martha Dee Lane Hemphill, age 84, of Brady, Texas passed away peacefully Sunday, February 27, 2022 at Brady West in Brady, Texas.

Martha was born February 10, 1938 in Brady, Texas to Thomas H. Blackwell and Davie (Dial) Blackwell.

She graduated from Brady High School in 1956.

She married Allen Carroll Hemphill on June 9, 1956 in Brady, Texas. They spent a short time at Fort Bliss in El Paso while Carroll served in the U.S. Army before returning to Brady and later moving to Pear Valley to make their family home.

Martha was a lifelong resident of the area where she was a member of the Lohn Church of Christ.

She was a homemaker but over the years she also worked in Brady at Lintz's, Barley Insurance, Brady Co-op, Loadcraft and then after 12½ years she retired from Walmart in February of 2003.

Martha took great pleasure in gardening and working in her yard. She also loved to travel, cook and enjoy the times when all the family got together to visit.

Funeral services for Martha Hemphill will be held at 10:00am Saturday, March 5, 2022 at Leatherwood Memorial Chapels in Brady with Jimmie Fore officiating. Interment will follow at Pear Valley Cemetery in Pear Valley. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Leatherwood Memorial Chapels.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Blackwell, Jason Smith, Brody Dillard, Haden Dillard, Benjamin Galindo, Caleb Galindo, Will Castleberry, Connor Nuncio and Kolton Wenzel.

Martha is survived by son Royce Hemphill and wife Tamie of Pagosa Springs, Colorado; daughters Leisa Smith and Scooter Nowlin of Lohn, Texas, Cynthia Dillard and husband Keith of Millersview, Texas and Kristi Castleberry and husband Allen of Junction, Texas; grandchildren Melissa Nuncio, Jason Smith, Nicole Fanning, Brody Dillard, Haden Dillard, Kimberly Galindo, Cassidy Castleberry and Will Castleberry; great-grandchildren Camryn and Connor Nuncio, Kolton and Kinley Wenzel, Charlie and Campbell Fanning, Caleb, Benjamin and Gracie Galindo, Beckett Dillard, Kohen and Karsyn Dillard; sister Theba King of Mason, Texas; brother-in-law Jerell Hemphill and wife Peggy of Pear Valley, Texas; sister-in-law Shirley Hemphill of San Angelo, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews and her best friend, Lila Gage.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, one brother-in-law, one sister-in-law, one niece and one nephew.

The Hemphill family extends their sincere thanks and appreciation to Dr. Vickers, Solaris Hospice and Brady West.
