Iona Lila Krumm was born near Newburg, Iowa to Philip and Lila Belle Cooper Krumm. She attended rural school and graduated from Newburg High School in 1943.
In 1943 she was married to Kenneth Benson and to this union was born one daughter, Peggy. They lived in Kellogg and she operated a beauty shop. Kenneth died during World War II.
She was married to Gerald Eugene Edwards on June 30, 1950 in Marshalltown, Iowa. They were the parents of three sons, Craig, Grant and Scott. They lived in Kellogg and moved to Riverside, California in 1956. Gerald was in the grocery business and Iona was a homemaker and mother.
They retired in 1984 and returned to Iowa where they settled at Rock Creek Lake near Kellogg, Iowa. In 1996 they moved to Seeland Park in Grinnell.
Iona enjoyed decorating her home, tending to her flower garden and attending family reunions. She loved the seasons in Iowa and studying history.
