Mr. Batchen who was delirious all of Saturday night was apparently well Sunday morning and traveled without complaint until they reached the summit.....but died befor they reached Placerville.
Batchen arrived in this county four or five years ago from Denver, Co. He organized a company to work placer ground on Alder creek near Garden valley. After one season work the enterprise was abandoned. He was also one of the locators of Placer ground at Placerville, sold to the Basic Dredging co. He received all the payments for his interest except one to the amount of !,000 which will become due on Aug. 1st. Batchen was somewhere between thirty five and forty years of age.
