Wilma Gabe Martin, 69, Henderson, died at 6:39 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010, at St. Mary's Medical Center.

She was a member of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, Daughters of the American Revolution and Women of the Moose. She was also a Kentucky Colonel. She began her political career after 10 years of service in the Henderson Circuit Court Clerk's Office. She was a well-respected public official. Wilma was initially elected Henderson County Court Clerk in 1989, where she was undefeated for three consecutive terms. She retired in 2002 because of her declining health.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph A. and Cordie Lee Melton Gabe; and one sister, Jo Ann Gabe Mills.

Survivors include her husband of 44 years, William L. "Bill" Martin; one son, Billy Martin and his wife, Nancy Crutcher Martin, both of Goshen, Ky; one stepson, Marcus Martin and his wife, Cindy, of Henderson; three sisters, Judy Bugg and her husband, Ron, Patricia Sigler and her husband, Neal and Linda R. Gabe, all of Henderson; two granddaughters, Tiffany and Brittany, both of Henderson; nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church. Father Patrick M. Bittel will officiate. Burial will be in St. Louis Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today and until 9 a.m. Wednesday at Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home, where prayers will be said at 6 p.m. today.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church or to Henderson County Diabetes Coalition.

Pallbearers will be Ron Bugg, Jr., Mike Farmer, Greg Poole, John Gabe, Jr., Mike Hazelwood, Mitchell Hazelwood, and Glenn Cohen.
