TERRE HAUTE — Russell B. Allen, 95, of Terre Haute, passed away at 8:42 a.m. Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, in Autumn Glen Senior Living Community, in Greencastle, Ind. He was born Aug. 30, 1917, near Sandborn, Ind., to John William Allen and Ora Blanch Russell Allen.
Russell graduated from Vincennes University and attended Purdue University. He served in the U.S. Army in the 276th Armored Artillery. He was a member of the Prairieton United Methodist Church. He was retired from the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Russell loved cars, playing scrabble, pinochle and cards. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid reader. He became a single engine pilot and really enjoyed flying.
Russell was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Frances Jeannette McCord Allen, who passed away in 1998; and eight brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his son, Randall Allen and Kathy of Smyrna Beach, Fla.; his daughter, Cheryl Williams and her husband Gene, of Greencastle. He also is survived by his sisters, Maxine Blubaum of Vincennes, and Betty Funcannon and Evelyn Muston, both of Terre Haute; his grandchildren, Randall Allen Jr., Clifton Allen, Dustin Allen, Chase Williams, Sherry Cummins, and Shelly Williams; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012, at Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 N. 13th St., in Terre Haute. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, at the funeral home.
