Vernon A. Caddo, 83, of Michigan City passed away on Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at 6:36 a.m. at Saint Anthony Health Center in Crown Point, Indiana.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Tim Prowse officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Viewing will be held on Sunday from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. at the Root Funeral Home and on Monday from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church.
Vernon was born July 15, 1928 in Michigan City to the late James W. Caddo Sr. and Vivian (Robson) Caddo.
On September 11, 1948 in Michigan City he married Margaret Dabkowski Caddo who is surviving in Michigan City.
Also surviving are six children: Diana (John Falvey) Butts of LaPorte; Keith (Deanna) Caddo of Michigan City; Janice (Tom) Moeker of LaPorte; Brian (Barbara Robbins) Caddo of LaPorte; Bruce (Heidi Baldwin) Caddo of New Carlisle; and Peggy Caddo of Michigan City; eleven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; two brothers: Loren (Lauren) Caddo of Michigan City and Russell (Jackie) Caddo of New Carlisle; and three sisters: Margie Barkdull of Long Beach, CA; Myrna Shriner of LaPorte and Sandra (George) Tamlin of LaPorte.
Preceding him in death are four brothers: Norman, Eugene James Caddo Jr and Darwin.
Vernon formerly worked as a welder at Pullman Standard and retired from welding at Behlehem Steel after 24 years of service to them.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Prime Timers, Michigan City Senior Center and the Union Local. He and Margaret donated their time for Meals on Wheels for 15 years. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and painting pictures.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, Meals on Wheels of LaPorte County or Dunebrook.
