Leonard Wesley Abney, age 81 of Orlando, Florida departed this life peacefully on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at the Florida Hospital in Orlando while surrounded by his loving family. Leonard was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and was also loved by all that knew him.

Born in Mt. Vernon, Kentucky on November 24, 1931 he was the son of the late Spencer and Alma Isaacs Abney. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Ernest, James, Russel and Harold Abney; and sister Minnie Doyle.

Leonard is survived by his wife, Christine McDonald Abney; son Gary and his wife Kathryn; daughter Rhonda Carson; grandsons Corey and his wife Christina, Robert and his wife Rachel; great-grandchildren Caroline, Cameron, Catherine, Corey, Jr., Robbie, Riley and Reid; special friends Charlie King and Joe Smith; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Friends may visit with the Abney family on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 from 12:00 Noon until time of the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. in the West-Murley Funeral Home, Huntsville Chapel, with Dr. Corey L. Abney officiating. Music will be provided by the Crabtree Sisters and Christina Abney. Burial will follow at Mill Branch Cemetery.
